Mix 'n Match with Miss Christine

Hi everyone!

I'm Christine from amidwestcollegiate.blogspot.com. I'm so excited to be guest blogging for the very lovely and beautiful Emily today!

Summer is the perfect time to be a bit more creative with your style. What better way than by mixing different patterns and prints. It's an easy way to break out of your wardrobe rut and an excuse to throw stripes with polka dots. This trend is bold, fun, over the top, and everything I wouldn't normally do. It takes me out of my comfort zone, but I'm usually happy with the result.

My style is classic and preppy, so I was a bit scared to try this trend out. However, I found a way to make it me. Here is an example look:

I mixed a pink gingham shirt from J. Crew with a Lilly Pulitzer floral skirt. This isn't necessarily a bold look. It's more subtle, yet I'm still embracing the trend and staying close to my style.

The key to making this trend work is simply, keeping it simple.
  1. Keep the prints in the same color family.
  2.  This happens to be one of the easiest ways to go. I find myself using this method the most.
  3. Balance the prints.
  4.   You can do this by keeping one of the prints neutral and the other in a bright color or by keeping one print "big" and adding a smaller one.
  5. Mix in Accessories.
  6. This is a great option if you’re just trying to get your feet wet.
The most important thing to remember is to wear your outfit with confidence. No one will believe you if you don’t believe it yourself.  Own it! Feel fabulous, be fabulous!

Will you be mixing prints this summer?

Xoxo,

Christine

  6. I have the skort in the same print and a pink gingham button down...I never thought to pair them together. I think I'm going to have to try that tomorrow! Love it!
